When a victim is prepared for a public stoning, s/he is buried up to the waist, and people throw rocks until s/he dies. Official rules state that the stones should be large enough to injure but not large enough to kill. This assures a long and painful death. This was painted after an internet image that didn't cite its source. Ordinarily the victim's face would be covered.
